Episode 32: Emotional Processing and Responses with Rachel Kuhrt
If the Lord has touched you in some way with His message today, I ask that you pay if forward by sharing this message, so that you and He may also bless others.
đđ«đ€ Christâs peace and presence be with you. It was evening. The evening Jesus was to share the last supper with His disciples and one that was about to betray Him. During the meal Jesus got up and showed by example that a true leader is first and above all a servant. Even to those who we know will hurt us. After confronting Judas and his betrayal, Jesus then addresses Peterâs/our weakness and lack of true faith in Him.
John tells us in John 13:31-38 âWhen he (Judas) was gone, Jesus said, âNow the Son of Man is glorified and God is glorified in Him. If God is glorified in Him, God will glorify the Son in Himself, and will glorify Him at once. âMy children, I will be with you only a little longer. You will look for Me, and just as I told the Jews, so I tell you now: Where I am going, you cannot come.
âA new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.â
Simon Peter asked Him, âLord, where are You going?â Jesus replied, âWhere I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later.â Peter asked, âLord, why canât I follow You now? I will lay down my life for You.â Then Jesus answered, âWill you really lay down your life for Me? Very truly I tell you, before the rooster crows, you will disown Me three times!ââ
Someoneâs final words to us typically arenât about the weather or some meaningless item. They are wanting to impart words of wisdom; lessons to be learned and lived by. In this passage Jesus invoked some mighty words of wisdom, but Peter in his selfishness just totally blew past the fact that Jesus was giving them a ânew commandâ. Peter was focused on trying to find out where Jesus going.
Jesus imparts on us a new command to âLove one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.â
There are so many varieties of love, but none compare to this command to love as Jesus has loved us. Truly, that degree of love is beyond words, but yet this is what He is asking of us. The interesting thing about it is, no one will ever tell you that you are loving as Christ has loved you. You wonât receive kudos or accolades. This is something only Christ Himself will discuss with you. It is a very personal and humbling conversation. But, before that conversation, you will need to talk with Christ to find out what loving like Him should look like and be in your life. The love He is asking of me is different than the love He is asking of you. Lean inâŠlisten closely and carefully to what He is saying to you in His final words. These words are extremely important.
At the 72 hour Walk to Emmaus weekend experience, Thursday evening, after sharing a light dinner, the Emmaus community sings a song as the Pilgrims leave for their time together with God. The song we sing is Theyâll Know We Are Christians by Our Love. As the Pilgrims leave the dinning room hearing these words, they havenât a clue about the love of God they are about to experience. I canât stop smiling thinking about it. Loving others as Christ loves you is hands down the absolute best gift you can offer anyone and everyone. Expect that not everyone will accept this gift, but know that those who do, will never be the same again.
Bless others and be blessed.

đđ«đ€ Christâs peace and presence be with you. Matthew 24: 36-44 âBut about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son but only the Father. As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left. Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.â
This passage is like the multiple waves of storms that moved through my hometown yesterday. This passage is like the multiple waves of change in our lives. This passage is like the multiple waves of trust we have in our lives. This passage is like the multiple waves of choices we have in our lives. This passage is like the multiple waves of decisions we have in our lives. This passage is like the multiple waves of relationships we have in our lives.
Youâre moving through your morning and a wave catches you from the back. You didnât see it coming, but that wave knocks you right into the path of a different wave, which then sends you crashing into another wave. Iâm a planner and like to know what my day has in store for me. Despite what I think I have planned in my life, my plans are not my own. Our lives have MANY turning points. Some major, but the majority are minor turning points. Although if you string a handful of minor turning points in your life, you could end up with a major turning point. Some are by our doing and some are a result of others in our lives. Some are at the hands of people we donât know. Some waves, weâll recognize right away the affects they bring, while others may take months or years to recognize.
If it seems like Iâm all over the place this week, thatâs good, because life is scattered. The one thing, ONE THING, that we have full choice over is our relationship with the Lord and the degree of effort we put into that relationship. Our prayers start with us initiating a conversation with God. Now, if we choose to have a relationship with God, then after we spout off our prayers, we actually stay to listen and hear Godâs response. Whatâs that you sayâŠHeâs not telling you anything. Well, maybe thatâs because you havenât stopped talking yet. Stop your brain long enough to hear God. âBut about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son but only the Father.â Will you allow yourself to be available to Him today, as well as that unknown day?
Bless others and be blessed.

đđ«đ€ Christâs peace and presence be with you. I hope you donât take it lightly when I offer you Christâs peace and presence at the beginning of our time together each week. Peace. A true peace, deeply rooted in Christ is not just peace. Itâs also power and confidence. Itâs hope, belief, and trust in God and allowing what He knows to be best, to work in and through your life. There are times in our lives when peace comes without effort. And then there are seasons in which it takes all our effort, concentration, and motivation we can muster to even feel a shred of peace.
At this time, I invite you to listen to Jack Beersâ 6 minute video reflection on last Sundayâs Gospel reading, John 20:19-31, and âthe kind of peace that only radiates from those who have a deep, deep relationship with Jesus Christâ.
Bless others and be blessed.

đđ«đ€ Christâs peace and presence be with you. Last Saturday I had the privilege of participating in my favorite Mass of the yearâŠthe Easter Vigil. I think thatâs partly because we get to spend some time in a dimly lit church, which for reasons I donât yet know, I find extremely peaceful. Iâve been participating in Mass at St. Albert the Great Church for about three years now and it has a rather unique set up. As you enter the church and look toward the alter, youâll notice 1) there isnât a wall on the back side of the alter and 2) there is another seating section behind the alter. Essentially, the alter is centered between the church side and the chapel side of the building. Also, the crucifix hangs over the alter and is two sided, so that Jesus can be viewed from both the church and chapel. This set up has come in pretty handy with COVID social distancing, especially when the restriction started loosening up, the church side when back to regular seating and chapel side retained social distancing.
Sitting in the pew on the church side, talking with God before Easter Vigil Mass, God showed me something that I hadnât notice before. I even took a picture so I could share it with you.Â
Looking at Jesus on the cross, then looking beyond the cross into the chapel, God told me, âThe cross is not the end. Your death is not the end. Look beyond the cross and you will find there is so much more. Death is just an entry point to far greater living than what life on earth has to offer. Donât fear drawing near to the cross. Iâm here to bring you to the other side.â
Bless others and be blessed.

Christâs peace and presence be with you. This week Dianaâs message is about growth through conversation. As she mentions in her podcast:
âAm I growing with each conversation? Am I learning from each experience? Am I reflecting on the moments throughout my day, and learning all I can learn from each interaction?â

Episode 26: Are You Growing with Each Conversation?

đđ«đ€ Christâs peace and presence be with you. Yesterday morning I read Matthew 20:1-16 The Laborers in the Vineyard. âFor the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard. About nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. He told them, âYou also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.â So, they went. He went out again about noon and about three in the afternoon and did the same thing. About five in the afternoon, he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, âWhy have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?â âBecause no one has hired us,â they answered. He said to them, âYou also go and work in my vineyard.â
When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, âCall the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.â The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius. So, when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. âThese who were hired last worked only one hour,â they said, âand you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.â But he answered one of them, âI am not being unfair to you, friend. Didnât you agree to work for a denarius? Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. Donât I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?â
So the last will be first, and the first will be last.â
We are all on our own journey and each of us come to the point of faith and trust in the Lord at different times for different reasons, and by different means. But we all have a few things in common.
The Lord is the one who sought and chose us to be with Him. We just had to say âYesâ to His invitation.
The Lord is the one who offers us a means for making a living and providing for our needs. We just have to say âYesâ to His invitation.
The Lord is the one who holds true to His word and gives us what He promises. We just have to accept them.
Lent has gone by in a blink and we are now at the midpoint of Holy Week. Over these next few days, we celebrate, experience and reflect upon some incredible events and gifts. Christ doesnât just tell us, but shows us leadership is actually being a servant to others. Just to name a few, He institutes the sacrament of Communion so that we will always have His physical presence with us. Christ called out the betrayal which Judas was about to impart and instead of holding him back, Jesus told him to do what he needed to do. He showed us the importance of going to a quiet place and having those heartfelt, hard conversations with the Father. He showed us the gift of friendship and also the betrayal of friends. The ridicule, verbal and physical abuse. Seeing and experiencing His motherâs pain. He experienced it all, so that you will never go through anything alone. He gives each and every person EVERY THING He has to offer. He doesnât hold anything back, including the GLORY of His resurrection and salvation.
It doesnât matter if you are in the morning of your life or in the 5 oâclock hour. The Lord is reaching out His nail pierced hand to welcome you into His home. Please, thoughtfully consider the opportunities that are being offered to you this week. Choose to share some extra time with the Lord and journey with Him on this road. May these steps you take carry you into a lifelong and beyond relationship with our risen Lord. Father, Son, and Spirit.
Bless others and be blessed.
