šŸ˜ŽšŸ«šŸŽ¤ Christ’s peace and presence be with you.  Here are a few passages that spoke to me this week.

Ephesians 5: 15-21 ā€œBe very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.  Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.  Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.  Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.ā€

Psalm 128: 1-2 ā€œBlessed are you who fear the Lord, who walk in His ways!ā€

Luke 13: 18-19 ā€œThen Jesus asked, ā€œWhat is the kingdom of God like? What shall I compare it to?  It is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became a tree, and the birds perched in its branches.ā€

Our experiences, whether we choose them or they are thrust upon us, make us who we are and to some degree, trigger and determine our actions when situations present themselves.  This is why it’s so important to be grounded in the Lord and allow our experiences and relationship with Him be the trigger for how we act when situations present themselves.  When we move forward in the Spirit, we can move in peace, love, patience, and wisdom.  It takes a moment to act, but only a second to react.  Choose a moment to allow the Spirit to fill you, so that a second won’t leave you empty and regretting your actions.

I saw this quote on Facebook a couple days ago and wanted to share it with you.  ā€œDon’t be afraid to start over again.  This time, you’re not starting from scratch, you’re starting from experience.ā€ – unknown.

No matter what our relationship is with the Lord at this very moment, you and I have the opportunity to start again and grow into an even better relationship with Him.  We can build on our relationship, letting that mustard seed of faith become a tree full of branches reaching forth into the lives of those around you.  When you choose to dig a little deeper, you’ll feel the change and others will notice the change in you.  And with the help of the Spirit, your change will inspire others to seek Him also.

Bless others and be blessed.

šŸ˜ŽšŸ«šŸŽ¤ Christ’s peace and presence be with you.  This past week has been filled with many reunion moments.  First, a Priest friend from India, that I hadn’t seen in four years, reached out to me and we were able to share dinner.  Second, while traveling, Brian and I were able to visit and have dinner with an Emmaus friend, that we haven’t seen in eight years.  Third, we had dinner with one of Brian’s Navy buddies, that he hadn’t seen in 24 years.  And finally, I was able to reconnect with a group of Air Force buddies that I hadn’t seen in 33 years.  I would guess a person doesn’t normally reconnect with this many people in a year, let along a week.  I remember thinking to my self at one point last Saturdayā€¦ā€Am I going to die?  Is that why I’m seeing so many old friends?ā€  I pretty quickly answered myselfā€¦ā€Nope, He still has more work for me to do.ā€  What specifically that is, I don’t really know.  But I do know that He has commissioned  you and I to share Him with others at all times.

A common theme that multiple people stated to me during these reunion moments wereā€¦ā€I needed this.ā€  I needed to talk with someone.ā€  ā€œThank you for talking with me.ā€  The way I interpreted the commonalities was that each of these friends felt safe and comfortable sharing their feelings, pain, struggles, etc. with me because they could sense God’s peace and presence.

After hearing the first and second readings at Mass Sunday, I thoughtā€¦ā€Both of these readings kind of help explain these God moment connections that I’ve been experiencing this week.ā€  The first reading was Exodus 17:8-13 and the second was 2 Timothy 3:14 – 4:2.

Exodus 17:8-13

ā€œIn those days, Amalek came and waged war against Israel.  Moses therefor said to Joshua, ā€œPick out certain men, and tomorrow go out and engage Amalek in battle. I will be standing on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hand.ā€

So Joshua did as Moses told him: he engaged Amalek in battle after Moses had climbed to the top of the hill with Aaron and Hur.  As long as Moses kept his hands raised up, Israel had the better of the fight, but when he let his hands rest, Amalek had the better of the fight.  Moses’ hands, however, grew tired; so they put a rock in place for him to sit on. Meanwhile Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other, so that his hands remained steady till sunset.  And Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the sword.ā€

2 Timothy 3:14 – 4:2

ā€œBeloved: Remain faithful to what you have learned and believed, because you know from whom you learned it, and that from infancy you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are capable of giving you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.  All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction, and for training in righteousness, so that one who belongs to God may be competent, equipped for every good work.

I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingly power: proclaim the word; be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient; convince, reprimand, encourage through all patience and teaching.ā€

Daily, we need to be engaged in God’s word and teachings, so that we not only have the knowledge, but also the wisdom we need at the exact moment to help and support friends in their trials.  Think about it for a moment.  Do you think Joshua would have willingly just jumped into a fight like that without knowing that he had backing from his friend and the Lord.  His friend was persistently praying over him as Joshua engaged the enemy.  And then when Moses grew tired, additional faithful members of their community stepped up to literally give Moses a hand of support.  Many times we think we are able to make it through these battles alone, but we can’t.  Look around you.  God has placed a community of faithful believers around you, for you to lean on.  Now is the perfect time to reach out to them.  Don’t worry, I’m sure God has been talking with and preparing them, as He had spoken with and prepared Moses for Joshua’s time of need.

Trust in His promise that He will do what is best for you and quit fighting Him so that He can actually give you what He is promising. He can only be as close as you allow Him to be.

Bless others and be blessed.

#CeCeWinans – Believe For It

šŸ˜ŽšŸ«šŸŽ¤ Christ’s peace and presence be with you.  A couple weekends ago I took some time off work to spend a long weekend with a group of ladies, in a log cabin, at Friends Camp 2022.  It was definitely the break I needed from my job.  When we had a full team at work, I would get up 2 ½ hours before my start time, so that I could shower and get ready for the day, walk two miles, listen to the daily Mass readings and homily, read my daily devotionals, and eat breakfast before starting work.  For the past 3-4 months (I’ve lost count) I’ve been getting up 30 minutes earlier than I was before.  I take 45 minutes to get myself ready for the day and then I start work.  I haven’t been walking, listening to the Mass readings and homilies, reading my devotionals, or eating breakfast.

During Friends Camp we have morning and evening devotionals and as I listened to each of the ladies share their devotional, I thought to myself…ā€Man, I’m missing that in my life.  I’m missing that connection with God.  I miss my Friend.ā€  All this overtime is taking a toll on me spiritually and physically.  By not being in God’s word like I used to be, I’ve been allowing myself to become someone I don’t want to be.  I’m irritable, grumpy, disconnected, brain dead at the end of the work day, short tempered with people.  I don’t like that version of me and that’s not where I want to stay.

So, here’s the thing.  It all comes down to me and MY choices.  No one else is to blame.  The overtime isn’t to blame.  So, what’s more important to me?  Which Shelly do I want to be?  Which Shelly do I know God wants me to be?  Now, what am I going to do about it?  I could make excuses, blame it on the overtime, and keep doing what I’ve been doing for the past 3-4 months.  Or I can adjust my routine, go to bed a little earlier, so I can get up a little earlier, and make sure I make the time to do what’s important to and for me.

When I returned from Friends Camp, I made some slight adjustments and I started feeling better about myself.  There was some improvement, but not enough.  I know there are still more adjustments I need to make.

If this sounds like a familiar season, take a step back and look at the person you are today.  Are you who you want to be?  Are you doing what you need to, to be the best you for God?  Give yourself some of that amazing grace that God offers us.  Evaluate where your life could use some adjustments.  Take the rearview mirror off.  Keep moving forward closer to God, reaching out for your greatest Friend.

Lord, thank you for never letting go of me.

Bless others and be blessed.

#JamieGrace – Hold Me (feat. TobyMac)

šŸ˜ŽšŸ«šŸŽ¤ Christ’s peace and presence be with you.  Today I would like to share the Prologue to Holy Moments A Handbook for the Rest of Your Life by Matthew Kelly.

Once upon a time there was a monastery deep in the forest. It was full of monks, they were full of joy, that joy was contagious, and people traveled from far and wide to visit.

One day a young man asked the Abbot why people came to the monastery. ā€œMost come looking for answers to their questions,ā€ the old monk explained. The young man was curious what type of questions people asked. The Abbot continued, ā€œThey come seeking answers to the same questions all men and women ponder. What should I do with my life? Am I wasting my one short life? Where do I find meaning? How do I get the most out of life?ā€

The young man had traveled a long distance to visit the monastery, and as he walked away the old monk wondered what question the young man’s heart was wrestling with.

Time passed in life at the monastery changed. It was ever so gradual at first. A couple of the monks became cranky. They had slowly closed their hearts to God and each other. Other monks became jealous. A younger monk was more handsome and popular with the visitors. Some of the monks began to argue about things of no consequence, and the poison of gossip crept into the monastery.

Visitors notice that little by little life at the monastery was deteriorating. They perceive the monks were losing their joy, they noticed the monks were not as kind to each other, and overtime they observe the monks growing impatient with their visitors.

The seasons came and went, and fewer visitors came to the monastery, until one day, the people stopped coming all together.

The Abbot rose each morning an hour before his brother monks and sat in the chapel asking God to give him the wisdom necessary to revitalize the monastery. But another summer came and went, and in the depths of the coldest winter ever, profound sadness ripped the old Abbott’s heart. He thought he had tried everything.

For hundreds of years people had come here longing for a glimpse of God in the monastery had thrived. What had he done wrong? He was wrapped with guilt and shame. The gap between his faith and his life and widened, and he didn’t know how to close it.

ā€œWhere are you going?ā€ Brother Killian asked.

ā€œI will visit the Hermit in the mountains to seek his counsel on our situation here at the monastery.ā€

There was a wise Hermit who lived in the mountains thirty miles to the north. People traveled into the mountains to seek his wisdom. The Hermit and the Abbot had been childhood friends, but this the other monks did not know.

ā€œWhen will you return?ā€ Brother Owen asked.

ā€œThree days,ā€ the Abbot replied.

ā€œWho is in charge while you were gone?ā€ Brother Fabian asked.

ā€œI will let you decide that among yourselves,ā€ the Abbot said. His words were still hanging in the air when the arguing broke out.

There was a time when the other monks would have been concerned about him making such a journey. But they were no longer concerned for each other, only themselves. There was a time when one of the others would have offered to accompany him, but those days were gone.

The Abbot slipped quietly out of the monastery and began his journey towards the mountains. Walking through the forest, and those first miles of his journey, he observed that his heart was anxious. But with each passing mile he became aware of a rising hope in his heart.

As dusk was falling, he came upon a small clearing in the foothills and decided to sleep there for the night. The old man gathered some wood, made a fire, ate a little bread and cheese, and settle down to sleep.

He was startled in the night by the howling of wolves and the screeching of wild parrots. He noticed his heart was racing, but he was not afraid. He did not fear death, he feared the torture of life without meaning.

Late the following morning he arrived at the Hermit’s cave. The Hermit was standing just outside the cave. As the Abbot approached, he said joyfully, ā€œI have been waiting for you!ā€ and the two men embraced like long-lost brothers.

ā€œI’ve something to ask you,ā€ the Abbot said.

ā€œI know, but that can wait,ā€ the Hermit replied.

ā€œFirst, I want to show you something.ā€ The Abbot was possessed by an inpatient that surprised him, but he followed his old friend.

The two men walked peacefully through the trees and after about fifteen minutes of fine lake was before them. It was breathtaking.

The Hermit sat on a large boulder at the side of the lake and the Abbot sat on a smaller boulder next to him. They sat in silence for over an hour and the Abbot felt a deep peace rising in his soul.

The lake was clear and still. The surface was like glass and the sun was reflecting perfectly on the water like a golden disc. The Abbot was mesmerized.

When the sun had reached its pinnacle, the Hermit began to speak, ā€œA still pond reflects the sun perfectly. God is the sun. You are the lake. When your soul is still and clear you reflect the truth, beauty, and goodness of God to everyone you encounter. As the day goes on, the wind will pick up, the lake will be full of ripples, and you will barely be able to see the sun’s reflection in the water.ā€

After a few minutes the two men walked back through the cypress trees to the cave. As they sat drinking tea the Abbot describe what had happened at the monastery over the past several years. The Hermit listened closely and when the Abbot had finished asking a handful of clarifying questions. ā€œWhat have you come here to ask?ā€ was the Hermits last question.

ā€œWhat wisdom do you have for us? How do we rejuvenate the monastery? How can we best serve the people who come to visit?ā€ The Abbot asked.

ā€œThat’s three questions,ā€ the Hermit said with a smile so radiant that the Abbot had to look away. ā€œI will answer your three questions with one answer,ā€ the Hermit continued. ā€œGo back and tell the brothers… The Messiah is among you.ā€ And with that the Hermit closed his eyes and slipped into a deep meditation.

ā€œThe Messiah is among us, what can that possibly mean?ā€ The Abbot mumbled to himself. But as he walks slowly down the mountains the full meaning of the Hermit’s words took root deep in his soul.

Back at the monastery the monks were growing concerned. The Abbot had said he would be gone three days and he had already been gone five days. The next evening when there was still no sign of him, they began discussing what fate might have befall in him. The following morning Brother Fabian callously suggested he was not coming back either because he had died in the mountains or because he had abandoned them for some other life.

Just as the sun was setting that afternoon Brother Bartholomew saw a figure approaching the monastery and cried out, ā€œWe have a visitor.ā€ It was not a visitor. It was the Abbot.

He whispered softly to Bartholomew, ā€œGather everyone in the chapel.ā€ The Abbot was radiant as he sat before the whole community on the small wooden stool. He looked 10 years younger. The monks could not remember a time when he seemed so fully alive.

He told the other monks of his journey and shared with them the message he had received, ā€œThis is what I asked the Hermit. ā€˜What wisdom do you have for us? How do we rejuvenate the monastery? How can we best serve the people who come to visit?’ The Hermit replied, ā€œThat’s three questions. I will answer your three questions with one answer. Go back and tell the brothers… The Messiah is among you.ā€

The monks were astonished and gasped.

From that moment on they looked at each other differently, they thought of each other differently, and they began to treat each other differently.

The monks wondered day and night who the Messiah among them was. Was it Adrian, Bartholomew, Killian, Owen, Fabian, or was it the Abbot himself? And as the brothers wondered they began to treat each other with renewed kindness and a profound respect.

As time passed the Abbot noticed little things. There was a new spirit of cooperation. The brothers praised and encouraged each other, compassion and forgiveness return to their hearts, and they were kind to each other.

These little things, these Holy Moments, breathed new life into the community. The monks were flourishing. The monastery was flourishing. Even the flowers in the fields and the cows in the barns seemed happier.

And then one day it happened. The visitors returned. At first it was just one or two visitors like it had been in the past. But then they brought their friends, and their friends brought their friends.

Those that came to visit the monastery noticed that the monks were overflowing with joy. They perceive the monks had a profound reference for each other. And they observe the monks’ unquenchable patients with their visitors.

In a few short years the monastery had been transformed from the brink of collapse and was thriving like never before. A village sprung up around the monastery and the monastery became the center of life for the people in the village. The monks love the people, the people love the monks, and they all live together in harmony and happiness.

One Saturday afternoon the old Abbot was sitting on the bench in the courtyard looking gratefully towards the mountains, when a woman approached. Sitting down next to him she asked, ā€œWhat happened here?ā€

The old monk beamed his warm knowing smile and asked, ā€œWhat do you mean?ā€

ā€œThis place has been completely transformed,ā€ the woman explained.

ā€œNo,ā€ the Abbot disagreed gently, ā€œthe place is exactly the same. It’s the monks who have changed.ā€

ā€œHow did it happen?ā€ she asked.

ā€œWe started living as if the Messiah was among us,ā€ the Abbot replied

The woman pondered that for a moment and then began to weep. The old man put his arm around her to comfort her. She told him about her life and troubles. The woman shared with him the question that was tormenting her soul, the question that had urged her to visit the monastery. And they sat in silence for a long time.

ā€œWhat advice do you have for me?ā€ the woman asked, breaking the silence.

The two sat quietly for another long moment before the old man spoke, and then he said, ā€œTreat every person you ever meet like the second coming of Jesus in disguise.ā€

šŸ˜ŽšŸ«šŸŽ¤ Christ’s peace and presence be with you.  Today’s message is short and to the point, but it’s something that keeps coming back and is a sticking point in my mind.  Our lives are built upon many different seasons and some of those seasons are different prayers we pray and the way we pray them.  This week, a prayer that was brought back to my attention is the prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel.

Saint Michael the Archangel,

Defend us in battle.

Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil;

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;

And do thou, O prince of the heavenly host, by the powers of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen

The line that keeps coming back to me is ā€œall the evil sprits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.ā€

I have a shirt that says ā€œNot all who wander are lost, some are just looking for rocks.ā€  With the Saint Michael prayer and that shirt in mind, I thought this would be a great quote to put on a shirt:

ā€œNot all who wander are lost, some are seeking the ruin of souls.ā€

Be on the watch for and mindful of Satan and all the evil spirits seeking the ruin of your soul.  Keep the Lord close and fight to keep your relationship with Him strong.  The more you fight for your relationship with the Lord, the more you will recognize how He is fighting to keep His relationship with you.

Bless others and be blessed.

šŸ˜ŽšŸ«šŸŽ¤ Christ’s peace and presence be with you.  Monday was a very long and mentally draining day at work.  My eyes hurt, my head hurt, and I didn’t want to put any effort into cooking, so dinner was hotdogs, chips, and a tall spiced rum and Coke.  In an effort to settle my brain for a while, Brian and I watched the movie Father Stu, which is based on the life of Father Stuart Long.

It doesn’t matter if you are Catholic or not.  It doesn’t matter if you are male or female.  It doesn’t matter what nationality you are.  You will find a piece of you in this movie.  Watching this movie after a long, challenging day at work, it changed my perspective and freed my mind.  Checkout the trailer and then find an opportunity to experience the movie.

In addition to the trailer, I also wanted to share with you the closing song from the movie.  I pray you find meaning in them as I did.

Bless others and be blessed.

šŸ˜ŽšŸ«šŸŽ¤ Christ’s peace and presence be with you.  First of all, I would like to thank you for your prayers during our wait time between installing the radiant floor heat system and the concrete being poured.  The rain that was forecasted for last Monday held off long enough for our foundation to be poured.  I hadn’t planned on taking the day off to be there for the concrete install, but a number of lastminute tasks had to be completed, so I shut down the laptop and put on some outside work clothes and headed to our homestead.

One of my prayers over the past two years has been for the team of companies that God was lining up for our project.  This concrete team from MD Miller Inc was impressive to watch and their attention to detail was incredible.  In case you are wondering, owner Matt Miller and us are not related.  But something that we did discover during our pre-pour meeting is that Brian and Matt were in the same college class about 12 years ago and Matt purchased one of our trailers during our auction in 2012.  It absolutely amazes me, but doesn’t surprise me, how God weaves our lives together.

It’s kind of like Mark Waters, the plumber we hired.  We had three plumbers lined up to do our project at different times, but for one reason or another, those connections fell through.  We’re going to put a two post car lift in our garage and one day as we were headed to the land, we passed a service station that had a couple lifts sitting in a side lot next to the business.  We stopped in to see if they were for sale.  The owner wasn’t in, but during a follow up conversation with the owner about installing a lift for us, the plumber topic came up.  He referred Brian to a good friend of his, Mark Waters, who is a plumber.  Waters, what a great name for a plumber.  Turns out he lives about 7 minutes away from our house and he has been a fabulous addition to our build team.  Very responsive and detail oriented.  He was also willing to adjust his schedule to fit our project timeline.

Something that my Dad has said multiple times is that God will give us the house He wants for us.  To say it’s really cool to see it developing and playing out, just doesn’t seem to fully express the awesomeness of the situation.  God has a way of making me smile from within, that I just can’t help but smile on the outside.  I’m very much so looking forward to see Him in action as we continue our home build project.

Just in case you might want to see the progress, I included a few pictures of Concrete Day.

Bless others and be blessed.

šŸ˜ŽšŸ«šŸŽ¤ Christ’s peace and presence be with you.  Last Friday Brian and I were able to put the finishing touches on our radiant floor heat install and we did pass our pressure test.  Thank you God!  At this point we are continuing to pray for mild and calm weather so that everything stays intact as we await the foundation inspection and the house concrete which is scheduled for 09/12/2022, depending on the weather.

Being that we had some unused materials from the floor heat install, Saturday morning we had three stops to make.  Brian was driving and he told me the order for the stops, which started with the furthest away, working our way back home.  Being different people as we are, my mind immediately thought, I would route it more like a loop, but decided not to say anything.  We completed our first stop and on the way to our second stop we saw a young girl by herself, close to a busy road.  I quickly looked down the cross street which led into a neighborhood, but did not see any adults.  There was a playground on the other side of that busy road and we were concerned she might be trying to go to the playground.  Brian turned around at the first road and we headed back to the little girl.

By the time we got back, she had crossed one street and was a couple houses into the neighborhood, but we still couldn’t see any adults.  Brian stopped and I got out of the car to see if I could help her.  I introduced myself and she quietly said she was looking for her mom.  I asked her if she knew her house number.  No.  I asked her what her last name was.  She didn’t know.  I asked her what her mom’s name was.  Mom.  I asked her what her dad’s name was.  Dad.  So, I didn’t have much to go on.  I asked her if it would be okay if I walked with her to find her mom.  Yes.  I asked her what direction we should go and she silently pointed her finger.  We started walking as it started to lightly rain on us.  As we stopped at each corner, I asked her which way to go and she would point.  We continued to walk and navigate our way through the neighborhood as the rain came down a little harder.  Brian followed us in the car, keeping his distance so people didn’t think we were trying to kidnap this little girl.  As we walked, I continued to make small talk with her about siblings, her favorite colors, if she was in school, etc.  In the meantime, Brian called the police to assist with finding her parents.  I also told her that Brian called the police to help us.

Following her directions, we worked our way through the neighborhood to a dead-end road.  She started to look a little more concerned and worried, so we turned around to retrace our path.  We walked to the first intersection, but she wanted to turn around and go back to the dead-end, so we did.  Reaching the end of the road, we turned around to once again retrace our path.  As we were heading up a hill, the first police officer arrived.  We stopped and he was asking us some questions, but she hid behind me and didn’t want to answer.  A second police officer arrived.  She too was asking questions, by the little girl again hid behind me.  They had me take a picture of her and I told them I would continue walking with her as they started knocking on doors.

We continued to walk and I asked her if anything looked like her home, but she said no.  She also told me that she needed to stay where her dad could see her.  We ended up completely retracing our path and she pointed me in a direction out of the neighborhood along that busy road.  We were just a little way down the road, as I was looking down at her and talking, I all of the sudden saw her face light up.  I looked up and quickly asked, ā€œIs that your dad?ā€  YES!  I was so happy, but not near as happy as her and her dad.

He explained that his wife had gone for a walk with one of their other children and he thought she was playing in another room, not knowing that she went out the garage door to go after her mom.  Apparently walking through that neighborhood was part of their normal walking route.  Me, the little girl and her dad headed back to the neighborhood to let the police know they were reunited.  At that time, he contacted his wife, who was already with the police officer.  She had called 911 also.  We did find out that this little girl was only 3 ½ years old.  We walked the neighborhood for close to an hour.  I can only imagine that was a very scary situation for her and I pray she doesn’t have any lasting trauma from that experience.

As I was reflecting on this experience, it brought to mind how, even as adults, we can very easily get lost.  We travel down roads that seem familiar, yet they don’t lead us to were we need to be.  Even though we should stay were our Dad can see us, we tend to wonder off and loose sight of Him.  But the joy on her face when she saw her dad said it all.  That was the joy of coming home to a loving father.  I pray that you are able to experience such a pure, childlike joy when you see our Father coming closer, as He is seeking to find you.

Bless others and be blessed.

šŸ˜ŽšŸ«šŸŽ¤ Christ’s peace and presence be with you.  On Thanksgiving Day 2020 Brian and I found a two acre lot that we put an offer on and were supposed in closed by 12/31/2020.  Due to a title issue which took six months to clear up, we closed on our lot 06/25/2021.  Being that our home is a little out of the ordinary, it took three months to get our building plans approved.  On 06/06/2022 dirt was finally being moved.  YAY!!!!  The foundation has been set and now our first physical part of the house project has begun.  You see, Brian and I decided that we were going to install the radiant floor heat system.  We were a little naĆÆve, thinking two of us could install a 90’ x 55’ radiant floor heat system in three days. God can accomplish a lot in three days, but we aren’t quite up to his level.  After five days and with my dad’s help…we have about ¾ the work completed.  I haven’t done this much physical labor in consecutive days since we closed our lawn care and landscaping business in 2011.

Yes, it’s hard labor.  My muscles hurt.  I have bruises.  My lips, face, arms, legs have sun burn…from the ground up.  Seriously, I expected the hurting muscles and bruises, but not the sun burn.  Believe it or not, I’ve been wearing a large brimmed hat, long sleeve shirt, and pants in 90 degree weather, but working with and on white Styrofoam insulation boards, the sun light reflects off the insulation boards and gave me a sun burn.

I’ve included some pictures of what we’ve been working on, so you can have a visual.  We put the plastic vapor barrier down on top of the gravel pad, laid the insulation board, set up the manifold station, run the Pex tubing, and top it all off with wire mesh and zip tie the mesh to rebar.  Once we complete this process, it then needs to be inspected and a pressure test complete to ensure there are no leaks in close to 5,400’ of Pex tubing.  After that inspection, then a foundation inspection has to be completed.  If all goes well, in about a week and a half, this system will be encased in concrete.

One of our concerns during this install process is our material not blowing away each night when we leave the job site, so we have to do our best to secure everything we install.  Brian and I would greatly appreciate your prayers for calm winds and mild weather during this time of finishing up the install and as we wait for the concrete to be poured.

In times like these, we want to be the ones in control, calling the shots, and making life go the way we want it.  Although we have a hand in how things can progress, ultimately it will all come together in God’s perfect timing.

Bless others and be blessed.
